As promised, you heard it here first … the next .Net Dojo! It’s been a little tougher in coming and planning due to a little issue with a hurricane named Ike … I’m sure you’ve heard of him. I’m not a big fan of his myself.

So … our topic will be Windows Communication Foundation, presented by Mr. Stephen Fulcher … someone that some of you may have met once or twice … and sponsored by our friends at New Horizons Houston! Here’s the skinny:

Overview:
Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is Microsoft’s strategic technology for building distributed, connected systems. Initially released with .NET 3.0, it has been significantly enhanced in .NET 3.5 to support the various web programming models including SOAP, POX, WS-*, REST and RSS/Atom syndications.  Topics covered include: SOA basics, WCF architecture, WCF bindings, hosting WCF services, WCF behaviors, WCF security and some design best practices.

What you will learn:
Steven Fulcher will guide you through a combination of lecture and hands-on labs where we will learn how to implement the various web programming models with WCF. Specifically, we will cover SOA basics, WCF architecture, WCF bindings, hosting WCF services, WCF behaviors, WCF security and some design best practices.

Prerequisites:
To fully participate in this workshop, attendees will need an open mind and a laptop with:
-  Visual Studio 2008 Professional or higher (Trial is OK) with Service Pack 1
-  Windows PowerShell 1.0 (optional, but recommended)
-  Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard or Express
-  A CD-ROM drive to load additional components and lab files.

I'm sorry y'all, but we canceled the ArcReady and MSDN Unleashed events that we had scheduled for this Wednesday at the Houston Microsoft office. We made this decision based on the damage caused by Hurricane Ike and the continued loss of power of major parts of the Houston metro area.

I do hope that everyone made it through the storm relatively unscathed ... I don't think that anyone in the Houston area was completely unscathed.

Well, we had the very first .Net Dojo last Thursday with Ben Scheirman presenting on ASP.NET MVC. Overall, the event was a major success; feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. It was my feeling that this type of event would be pretty popular and I’m glad to see that this was the case.

I’d like to thank Sogeti for sponsoring the event and making sure that everyone had plenty of sugar and caffeine to keep them going through the afternoon. And I’d also like to thank them for their support Ben’s involvement in this event.
